Information about the Occupational Health Service

My name is Hubert Schuster. In 1997 I took on the duties of the IIASA Physician for Occupational Health. I am a general practitioner and am qualified in occupational medicine. Additionally, I have completed studies in psychotherapeutic medicine dealing with systematic and family therapy. The competence, positive attitude, and experience gained in this course supports me in my relations with other people. In reference to my motto: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", I offer you professional consultation and advice on the following matters:

  • Information on how to avoid work-related health hazards such as back problems or eye stress.
  • Analyzing your workplace and informing you about improvements to your workplace (e.g. adjusting height of your desk, chair, etc.).
  • Examining you in case you should feel ill or suffer from work-related illness, keeping in mind the medical oath of secrecy.
  • Informing you about new and "old" (although still effective) trends in promoting health, and preventing illnesses such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, etc.
  • Consulting and advising you in special situations such as chronic illnesses, being disabled after an accident, questions about aging, maternity leave, etc.
  • Offering courses on health care, e.g. prevention of stress at work, how to avoid back problems at work, bad habits which could affect your health, e.g. smoking, lack of physical exercise, abuse of alcohol and drugs, etc.
  • Vaccinations against tetanus, hepatitis, German measles, early summer meningoencephalitis (caused by ticks), diphtheria and polio.
How can you contact me?

I offer regular consulting hours at IIASA; you will be notified of the exact date and time in advance. The consultation is free of charge, and no e-card is necessary.

Note: The occupational health service does not include the following: prescriptions, referral to specialists, and authorization of sick leave.

During my IIASA office hours, I can be reached on extension 347, room G-209
