Objectives

The objective of the TNT Project is to analyze the possible diffusion of a "fourth" wave of new,  emerging information, communication, mobility, and energy technologies, their possible interlinkages, and the potential social and environmental impacts of their widespread adoption.  Research questions include

• Which new technological combinations could lead to fundamentally new human activities and how they would do so?
• What are the nature and possible form of these new activities?
• What are the associated institutional and organizational changes?
• What are the nature and magnitude of possible social and environmental impacts?

Research Areas

• Analysis of historical patterns of technological change that can serve as analogues for the broad features of future development and diffusion of new technologies
• Development of new methods and models for capturing the dynamics of technological change in time and space
• Analysis of possible combinations and impacts of new technologies as future case studies
