Aneeque Javaid is a research scholar jointly associated with the Sustainable Service Systems and Integrated Assessment and Climate Change research groups of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program.
His research focuses on the design and impact of climate change mitigation policies, especially related to the urban transportation sector and the potential of demand-side measures such as lifestyle changes in achieving sustainability goals. Additionally, he is also interested in why people engage in environmentally constructive or destructive behavior, and the behavioral political economy of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Before joining IIASA in 2023, he worked as a researcher in the working group land use, infrastructure, and transport at MCC Berlin, Germany. He completed his doctoral dissertation from Jacobs University, Bremen in 2016 on behavioral aspects of destructive fishing in Zanzibar, Tanzania. As part of his PhD, he created agent-based models of destructive fishing methods. However, most of his work employs empirical methods for collecting and analyzing quantitative data. Recently, he has conducted systematic reviews on different topics related to urban transportation and the energy sector.
In addition to research, he has consulted policymakers at different levels of government on projects related to sustainability, climate change mitigation, and women's mobility in low and middle income cities.
