Researcher Advancing Systems Analysis Program
Pratik Patil is a researcher in the Cooperation and Transformative Governance (CAT) Research Group of the Advancing System Analysis (ASA) Program, where he works on the Transformations within Reach Project aimed at catalyzing societal transformations towards sustainability.
Patil's research is oriented by a drive to make a meaningful and positive difference as humankind's collective near-term choices are likely to have a long-term impact on the future trajectories of sentient life. He aspires to integrate multiple scientific and normative perspectives towards a coherent synthesis needed to navigate the Anthropocene. His research interests include multi-level paradigmatic transformations (from reductionist idealism to complex realism); the co-evolution of technologies and culture (particularly social structures); the philosophy of science and technology (specifically techno-realism); mitigating global anthropogenic risks; governance and the science-policy-society interface; and (explanatory) data analysis techniques.
Patil's transdisciplinary background includes a bachelor's in Electronics Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India and a master's in Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy (SEEP) from the Vienna University of Economics and Business in Austria. His master's thesis focused on the evolution of technologies with a case study of space technologies. It underscored the exigency of paradigmatic cultural transformations for mitigating anthropogenic systemic risks. In addition, he has extensive professional work experience in software development.
