Flora Brocza is a guest research assistant in the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. Her fundamental research interest is the interaction between mercury and its natural and engineered environment, and how this affects emissions of the pollutant on a larger scale. She is currently a PhD student at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK, studying biochar-based mercury sorbents in the context of air pollution control.
Prior to joining IIASA, she completed a BSc and an MSc in Geosciences at the University of Vienna, Austria with exchange and research visits to the Universities of Belgrade, Serbia, and Haskoli Islands, Iceland. She also completed an MSc in Bioenergy at the University of Leeds.
