Wagner is currently a senior research scholar in the IIASA Air Quality and Greenhouse Gases Program and the IIASA Capacity Development and Academic Training Dean – both roles which he will continue in addition to the new appointment. He is also an associate faculty member at the Complexity Science Hub and the Technical University in Vienna.

Before joining IIASA in 2004, Wagner was a researcher with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Hayama, Japan, and between 2014 and 2016 he was the Gerhard R. Andlinger '52 Professor for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University's Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He has a PhD in theoretical physics, a master's degree in mathematics, and a master’s degree in the history and philosophy of science, all from Cambridge University.

“This is an honor to me,” says Wagner. “The journal‘s scope aligns very well with the work that we have been doing at IIASA, and also reflects the research priorities of the institute’s new strategy. One of my main objectives right now is to carefully adjust the journal‘s perspectives to rapidly changing research environments, so that it remains one of the leading scientific outlets in the field.”

Three other IIASA scientists are currently members of the journal’s Editorial Board.

“Many of my IIASA colleagues see Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change as a high-quality and relevant journal that bridges topics, disciplines, and scales, and addresses environmental issues in the context of policy and real world decision making,” says Wagner, who encourages researchers in the extended IIASA network to submit to this journal. “Maybe your next article will be published in Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change.”
