The Bonn Climate Change Conference 2017 encompassed a number of important meetings aimed at furthering the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change. These included the forty-sixth sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 46) and Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 46) as well as the third part of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA 1-3).
IIASA researchers from the Ecosystems Services and Management, Energy, and Risk and Resilience programs co-organized and participated in several side events, bringing policymakers at the events the latest research informing pathways to achieve the climate targets set by the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Ratcheting up NDCs: sustainable road maps towards the global objectives of 1.5°C and 2°C
This event, on the side of the SBSTA conference, featured presentations and discussions with leading international experts, including representatives of our Indian and Brazilian partners who will present country-level strategies for low carbon development pathways and their impact on other sustainable development dimensions. The event was organized by the IIASA-led project: Linking Climate and Development Policies – Leveraging International Networks and Knowledge Sharing (CD-LINKS).

Contribution of forest landscape restoration to NDCs
A side event aimed to demonstrate the contribution of Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) approaches to the achievement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Leading countries and expert organizations shared experiences and views in the design and successful implementation of FLR policies and practices. The event was co-hosted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and IIASA's Ecosystems Services and Management Program (ESM) cohosted an event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference - May 2017.

Supporting loss and damage for the most vulnerable: experiences from Africa and elsewhere
IIASA Risk and Resilience Program Deputy Director Reinhard Mechler participated in this side event, which was co-hosted by CARE International, the ACT Alliance - Action by Churches, and Practical Action. IIASA researchers have been leading the development of research on the issue of loss and damage.
