As scientific adviser to European Commission President Barroso, Glover is charged with locating scientific information and experts to provide input into European policy.

Glover visited IIASA in order to learn more about the Institute’s research and discuss how IIASA researchers can contribute their knowledge and research to EU policy decisions. During the meeting, she spoke with IIASA Deputy Director Nebojsa Nakicenovic, IIASA Secretary Margaret Goud Collins, and IIASA research program leaders and researchers:  Keywan Riahi, Energy Program, Wolfgang Lutz, World Population Program, Michael Obersteiner, Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program, and Fabian Wagner, Mitigation of Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gases (MAG) Program.

During her visit, the discussions focused on science for policy, as well as future collaboration with the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (BEPA) in the areas of climate change, energy, air pollution, land-use, ecosystems and human capacity.

IIASA has a long history of cooperation with the European Union. For example, estimates of future air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and cost-effective reduction strategies identified with IIASA’s GAINS model model underlie climate and air quality treaties within and beyond EU borders.
