Activities with Member Countries: IIASA Info Sheets

IIASA Info Sheets provide summaries of recent IIASA activities in individual countries and regions over the last five years.

The Info Sheets include information on research partners, research collaborations, capacity building activities, publications, and other interactions. They also include prospects for future interactions. Below are the links to the countries and regions which currently have an IIASA Info Sheet.



The Austrian Academy of Sciences is the National Member Organization representing Austria. Austria is the host country of IIASA. More


IIASA collaborates with over 20 research partners in Brazil using systems analysis to better understand the global challenges facing the country and wider Latin American region. More


The People's Republic of China became a member of IIASA in 2002, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) is China’s National Member Organization. More


Egypt became a member of IIASA in 2003, and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) is Egypt’s National Member Organization. More


IIASA collaborates with over 30 research partners in Finland to develop long-term solutions to challenges ranging from the future of the Arctic to the resilience of Finland's economy and society to extreme events. More


The National Member Organization (NMO) for Germany is the German Association for the Advancement of IIASA. More


Research collaborations between IIASA and India stretch back to the 1970s, but the relationship became far more productive after India became a national member of IIASA in 2007 through the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC). More


Indonesia officially became a member of IIASA in 2012 through the Indonesian National Committee for IIASA. More


Iran via the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) joined IIASA in 2016. More


In 2017, Israel via the Israel committee for IIASA became a national member of the institute. More


As one of the IIASA founding organizations, the Japan Committee for IIASA has helped develop a highly-productive relationship between IIASA and Japan. More

Jordan (Prospective Member)

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan became a prospective member of IIASA in 2020 through the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan. More

Mexico (Observer)

Mexico became a member of IIASA in 2014 through the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT).  More


IIASA and Norway have been research collaborators since IIASA was established in 1972. In 1996 Norway became a formal member of IIASA via The Research Council of Norway. More

Republic of Korea

The National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) became an IIASA National Member Organization in 2008, representing the Republic of Korea. More

Russian Federation

The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is the organization representing the Russian Federation’s membership of IIASA. More

Slovak Republic

The Slovak Republic joined IIASA in 2020 with its membership supported through the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport. More

South Africa

South Africa became a member of IIASA in 2007 through its member organization, the National Research Foundation (NRF). More


The Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS) is the National Member Organization representing Sweden's membership of IIASA. More


The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the National Member Organization (NMO) and represents Ukraine’s membership of IIASA. More

United Kingdom

United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) represent the United Kingdom’s membership of IIASA. More

United States of America

The National Academy of Sciences, one of the founding members of IIASA, is the National Member Organization representing the United States of America.  More


The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) became the twenty-first National Member Organization in November 2013. More
