Research Scholar Novel Data Ecosystems for Sustainability Research Group - Advancing Systems Analysis Program
Inian Moorthy joined IIASA's Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program as a Research Scholar in April 2015. He currently works with the Earth Observation Systems (EOS) group and his research interests include quantitative remote sensing, citizen science, and crowdsourcing mechanisms to complement Earth Observation datasets and processing chains.
Dr. Moorthy received his PhD in the field of Earth & Space Science from York University in Toronto, Canada. His studies focused on the application of 3D ground-based Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) platforms for vegetation condition monitoring and mapping. He completed a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute of Sustainable Agriculture in Cordoba, Spain, working with a highly specialized team on the precision mapping and management of olive orchards using LiDAR systems and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Prior to joining IIASA, he worked as a Research Manager in the private sector collaborating with software engineers and researchers across Europe, to develop modern Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions in the field of open data. In addition, he brings to the EOS group proficiencies in project management as well as proposal building for numerous EU funding schemes including Horizon 2020.
