The Food Systems Podcast, hosted by Dr. Franziska Gaupp, invites actors in the global food system to talk about their role in this inter-linked, complex system. Franziska talks to scientists, policy makers, entrepreneurs, innovators and food producers. She is interested in what brought them to where they are today. What does their work look like? And how do they imagine the future of food?

#4 Mauricio Lopes

Dr. Mauricio Lopes is the former president of EMBRAPA, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation and currently a guest scholar at IIASA. Mauricio talks about the transformation of the Brazilian agricultural sector over the last decades, what role EMBRAPA played in it and why sustainable intensification is the key to a resilient future of food.

#3 Gabriela Guimaraes-Nobre

Gabriela Guimaraes-Nobre is a PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where she works on crop failure early warning systems.
She is a member of the UN Major Group for Children and Youth and the Water Youth Network. Gabriela speaks about her motivation and the paths that have led her to Europe, about why youth engagement is so important and about her role in the young scientist platform for disaster risk reduction.

Dr. Joe Glauber is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute where he works on trade, crop insurance and price volatility issues. Joe talks about how he started his career as an anthropologist, his experience as the US Department of Agriculture chief economist and how multilateral trade agreements are important to ensure food security.

Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, a climate impact modeller, tells us about how working on a farm in Tuscany, Italy, changed her life, how she got hired by NASA to develop a model that estimates the impacts of climate change on agriculture, and why there are good reasons for optimism about our future.
