Guest Senior Research Scholar Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services Research Group - Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program
Elisabeth Wetterlund joined IIASA as a guest research scholar in January 2017, working in the Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) program. Since January 2021, she is a senior guest research scholar affiliated with the Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services (AFE) research group within the Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) program. She mainly works with research related to modeling and analysis of energy systems, with particular focus on forest biomass, biorefineries, and integration with industries or local or regional energy systems. At IIASA, she contributes to the development of the BeWhere model, a techno-economic model which optimizes the geographical location of bio-energy production plants. She also holds a position as associate professor in energy engineering at Lulea University of Technology, Sweden, and she is the deputy manager of Bio4Energy, a strategic research environment appointed by the Swedish government.
Dr. Wetterlund received her PhD in Energy Systems in 2012, from Linkoping University, Sweden. She first came to the forestry program at IIASA as a participant of the 2010 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP), returning one year later to ESM, as the recipient of the 2010 Mikhalevich Award.
