Curriculum Vitae

Stefan HochrainerStefan Hochrainer-Stigler studied statistics, with focus on mathematical statistics and stochastic processes, at the University of Vienna, Department of Statistics and Decision Support Systems, where he received his master's degree in 2002 and his PhD in risk management against extreme events in 2006. He additionally holds a master's degree in sociology, empirical branch, from the same University. He was a research assistant and lecturer at the University of Vienna from 2004 till 2006. Since 2006 he has worked as a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied System Analysis, as well as a lecturer at the University of Vienna.

His main research interests include risk management of extreme events, such as natural disasters in developing countries, statistical (stochastic) modeling of rare events, extreme value theory & econometrics, as well as multivariate analysis.
