Phone Extension: 313 Reinhard Mechler is an economist and is leading the Group on Disasters and Development. Specific interests of his include catastrophe risk modelling, the longer-term impacts of disasters and climate change on development, the use of novel risk financing mechanisms such as microinsurance, sovereign risk transfer and catastrophe bonds for sharing disaster risks, and the assessment of the efficiency and equity of risk management and adaptation measures. He has published widely in journals such as Science, Climate Policy, Atmospheric Environment and Natural Hazards. He acted as a reviewer of the 4th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has been leading and contributing to research projects and consultations for organizations including the European Commission, DFID, UN, ProVention Consortium, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Caribbean Development Bank and GTZ.
