Phone Extension: 471 Jan Sendzimir conducts research on the transition of social-ecological systems to regimes that are more adaptive to uncertainty from global change. His research teams investigate the policies, concepts, and methods that support decision processes that guide the adaptive management of river basins vulnerable to climate extremes, such as droughts and floods. His work assesses the potential for irreversible change and the capacity to learn and revise the means by which social-ecological systems adapt to change from climate, economy and politics. On a base of natural science (wetlands and landscape ecology) he uses systems theory and methods (conceptual modelling) to collaborate with other disciplines in developing multi-scale perspectives of the processes affecting the resilience and adaptive capacity of natural and human systems. Key words: Water, adaptive management, action research, sustainable development, participatory science, group model building, resilience and irreversible change Responsible for this page: Jun Watabe |
