DR. HEINZ FISCHER
The Federal President of the Republic of Austria
Dr. Fischer’s inauguration as the Federal President of the Republic of Austria in 2004 culminates a distinguished political career. He represented the Vienna constituency in Austria’s National Assembly from 1971 to 2004, was President of the National Assembly from 1990 to 2002, and was Vice-Chairman of Austria’s Social Democratic Party from 1979 to 2004.

PROF. JOSE GOLDEMBERG
Professor, University of Sao Paulo
Former Secretary of State for Science and Technology and Minister of State for Education, Brazil

Professor Goldemberg is a leading expert on energy and environment issues. He recently served as Secretary for the Environment of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and is currently a Professor Emeritus at the University of São Paulo, from which he earned his Ph.D. in Physical Science.

 

MS. YOLANDA KAKABADSE
President, WWF International

Ms. Kakabadse is also Chair of the Advisory Board of Fundacion Futuro Latinoamericano, a regional NGO dedicated to conflict management in Latin America, a member of the Board of Directors of the Ford Foundation, the InterAmerican Dialogue, the Environmental Advisory Board of CocaCola and the Holcim Foundation. Between 1998 and 2000 she was the Minister of Environment for Ecuador.

PROF. JACQUELINE MCGLADE
Executive Director European Environmental Agency (EEA)
Jacqueline McGlade is the current Executive Director of the European Environment Agency based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is former Professor of Environmental Informatics in the Department of Mathematics at University College London and is a leading marine biologist. Her research focuses on the spatial and nonlinear dynamics of ecosystems, climate change and scenario development.

PROF. DR. DIRK MESSNER
Director of the German Development Institute (DIE); Vice Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WGBU)
Dirk Messner is the Director of the German Development Institute (DIE), one of the leading research institutions and think tanks for global development and international development policy worldwide. He is also the Vice Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), an independent, scientific advisory body established in 1992 in the run-up to the Rio Earth Summit. Professor Messner is co-author of the new WBGU report ‘World in Transition – A Social Contract for Sustainability’, a contribution to the RIO+20 Conference.

DR. RAJENDRA K. PACHAURI
Chairman, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Director-General, The Energy and Resources Institute, India
In 2002 Dr. Pachauri was elected the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which along with former Vice President Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 ”for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change.” Since 2001, he has been the Director-General of The Energy and Resources Institute in India.

PROF.  JOHAN ROCKSTRÖM
Executive Director, Stockholm Resilience Centre and Former Executive Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute

Professor Rockström is a Professor in natural resource management at Stockholm University, and an internationally recognized scientist on global sustainability issues. Recently he led the development of the new Planetary Boundaries framework to define the nine Earth systems that need to be kept within bounds for Earth to keep itself in balance.

PROF. THOMAS SCHELLING                
Distinguished Professor, University of Maryland, USA and Nobel Prize (Economics)
In 2005, Professor Schelling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for enhancing the "understanding of conflict and cooperation through game-theory analysis." It culminated an impressive career in which he worked at, among others, the White House and Executive Office of the President, Yale University, the RAND Corporation, Harvard University, and the University of Maryland.

PROF. JOHN (Hans Joachim) SCHELLNHUBER
Director, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany

Professor Schellnhuber has been Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor for Theoretical Physics at Potsdam University since 1993. He has won many awards for his research and is active on numerous panels advising governments and organizations on environment and development matters including Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU).

PROF. BJÖRN STIGSON
Former President, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
In 1995 Professor Stigson was appointed President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a coalition of some 200 leading international corporations. Previously, he had been President and CEO of the Fläkt Group, a world leader in environmental control technology, and since 2010 he has been a visiting Professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

DR. KARLHEINZ TÖCHTERLE
Federal Minister for Science and Research, Austria
Dr. Töchterle was appointed the Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research in April 2011. The appointment follows an impressive academic career that has included professorships at the Universities of Graz, Innsbruck, and Munich. Since 2007, he has been the Rector at the University of Innsbruck.

DR. SOOGIL YOUNG        
Chairman, Presidential Committee on Green Growth, Republic of Korea

Dr. Young’s is Chairman of  Korea’s highest-level policy-deliberation body on all matters related to Korea’s climate-change mitigation and adaptation strategies and policies, and the promotion of green growth both in Korea and in the developing world.

MR. KANDEH K. YUMKELLA         
Chairman, UN-Energy and Director General, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)

Through UNIDO, Mr. Yumkella is fostering sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition. At the same time, UNIDO helps to protect the environment by supporting clean and sustainable technology. He is a charismatic public speaker who addresses global issues including poverty reduction, climate change, green industry, and renewable energy.
