In 2014 ESM delivered policy-relevant science related to the management of land based resources and also documented its scientific progress through publications, covering a very broad scope of scientific fields, including mathematics, physics, biology, environmental sciences, economics, and Earth science.
ESM also paid special attention to the development of novel methodological backgrounds for integrated assessment modeling, and continued to make further improvements to the ESM Integrated Modeling Cluster and Earth Observation Systems.
The Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program’s Agro-Ecological Systems (AES) research group advanced global and regional crop modeling in 2014, implementing and calibrating additional crops in the global EPIC model and also studying the phosphorus cycle. More
The Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Earth Observation Systems (EOS) research group in 2013 introduced new ways for citizen scientists to contribute data to improve global land cover maps through development of its Geo-Wiki project. More
Ecosystems Services and Management’s research group on Environmental Resources and Development (ERD) tackles the many complex interactions between the natural environment and the human systems that affect it in the context of a growing population and climate change, for example, agricultural land use for cropping and forestry, land use change, and livestock management. More
The Methods for Economic Decision-Making under Uncertainty (MEDU) research group pursued ground-breaking research on forest fire adaptation in Europe, increasing capacity in the Ecosystems Services and Management Program (ESM) Program to handle computational requirements. More
The Policy and Science Interface (PSI) research group of the Ecosystems Services and Management (ESM) Program aims to strengthen various aspects of the role played by the Program in the climate and land use change communities. More
