Supporting landscape-scale planning for REDD+

IIASA co-hosted a session at the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) conference to coincide with COP19 in Warsaw.

Amazon River Basin at Manaus

On 16 November IIASA co-hosted a session at the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) conference held in concert with the COP 19 in Warsaw. Speakers were from the three tropical forest basins of the world: the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong Forest Basins.

IIASA Regional partners in Brazil and in the Congo Basin presented the GLOBIOM land use model development to address local and national land use planning issues and REDD+ policies in the framework of the REDD-PAC project.

The Global landscapes Forum brought together more than 1200 participants in Warsaw, with an additional 1500 joining via Web cast. A core objective of the event was to develop the potential of the landscape approach to inform future UNFCCC agreements and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
