Research Scholar Sustainable Service Systems Research Group - Energy, Climate, and Environment Program
Ju Yiyi works as a research scholar in the Sustainable Service Systems Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. She runs policy scenarios (e.g., on nationally determined contributions (NDCs), Net Zero, and 1.5°C) through the Model for Energy Supply Strategy Alternatives and their General Environmental Impact (MESSAGEix) to provide long-term mitigation pathways as an input to multiple projects (e.g., the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) and the Enabling and Leveraging Climate Action Towards Net-Zero Emissions (ELEVATE) project). Her current research interests include climate policy instruments, financial risks of mitigation, and industrial decarbonization.
From 2021 to 2023, she was an assistant professor at the Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) of the Waseda University in Japan, focusing on the modeling of industry technologies in energy-economic and integrated assessment models. Prior to that, she worked as a project researcher and then assistant professor in the Global Energy Policy and East Asia Research Unit of the Institute for Future Initiatives (IFI) at the University of Tokyo from 2019 to 2021. She holds a PhD in International Development with a focus on environmental economics from Nagoya University, Japan.
