Research Software Programmer Integrated Assessment and Climate Change Research Group - Energy, Climate, and Environment Program
David Campos Almeida is a research software programmer in the Integrated Assessment and Climate Change Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. He works as part of the Scenario Services and Scientific Software team.
Born in Portugal, next to the Vincentine Coast of the Atlantic Ocean, he later moved to Lisbon to pursue university studies.
Almeida holds a bachelor's degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal. He also holds a master's degree in Data Science from the University of Lisbon. His thesis project focused on building a database of news and social media materials to study the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the public's trust in science. It was conducted through the Social Physics and Complexity Group at the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particles Physics, Lisbon.
Shortly after finishing his studies, Almeida joined the Portuguese chapter of Transparency International, a global network of anti-corruption NGOs. Beyond that, he is passionate about social justice, sustainability, and civic participation. He has been an activist for the past eight years, with a recent focus on gender equality and anti-discrimination.
