Research Scholar Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation Research Group - Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program
Maximilian Hesselbarth is a research scholar and computational ecologist in the Biodiversity, Ecology, and Conservation (BEC) Research Group of the IIASA Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program.
His research focuses on ecological modeling and especially the spatially explicit characteristics of ecological processes. For this, he uses spatial point pattern analysis, individual-based modeling, species distribution modeling, and other modeling techniques. Furthermore, he is interested in R-programming and is the author and maintainer of several R packages.
Prior to joining IIASA, Hesselbarth was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan in the US, where he worked on artificial reefs as tools for fisheries and coral reef restoration.
He holds a PhD as well as a MSc in Ecological Modeling from the University of Goettingen, Germany, and a BSc in Forestry from the HAWK Goettingen.
