Research Scholar Energy, Climate, and Environment Program
Diamantis Koutsandreas is a research scholar in the Integrated Assessment and Climate Change Research Group of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. He earned his PhD in energy planning decision support models and multicriteria methods from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He has also served as a postdoctoral researcher in integrated assessment modeling at the Aalto University School of Engineering.
His research focuses on the development of integrated assessment models (IAMs), examining the interactions within the energy-resource-biodiversity nexus. He has also developed single-country and global Computable General Equilibrium macroeconomic models. As part of his work, he couples IAMs with macroeconomic models and multicriteria frameworks to identify energy system configurations that best serve decision makers' preferences and risk profiles. His research portfolio also includes time series forecasting and machine learning-driven decision support. Furthermore, he possesses profound programming skills in a range of languages, including R, Python, GNU MathProg, and GAMS. He has participated in several European Horizon 2020 research projects and has over two years of experience in the accounting and IT business consulting sectors.
