30 November 2021
09:00-12:00 CET (03:00-06:00 EST)
Virtual meeting via ZOOM
This is the final workshop for the SPIPA China project known as "China’s Long-term Integrated Modeling Analysis on climaTe changE (CLIMATE) Project". The main aim of this workshop is to present the work that has been done over the course of the project and to discuss the future research needs for China's low-carbon strategies.
Speakers at this online event will include researchers in the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program (ECE), the Pollution Management Research Group (PM), and the Integrated Biosphere Futures Research Group (IBF), Vicky POLLARD from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA), Dr. Qimin CHAI from the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, Dr. Sha FU from the Energy Foundation China, as well as representatives of GIZ.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 30 November 2021 from 09:00 - 12:00 (CET). Participation is possible virtually via ZOOM.
Registrations for this event are ongoing. Please register via email to Amela Ploskic ()

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The project aims to develop and improve modeling tools and develop a “harmonious and beautiful” long-term climate neutral transition pathway for China, which is able to be informative to the development and implementation of long-term low greenhouse gas (GHG) emission strategies under the Paris Agreement. Pathways developed will consider socioeconomic development, energy, climate change, environment, and other important development dimensions, combined with the domestic development needs of the construction of an ecological civilization, green low-carbon sustainable development, and building “a beautiful China” in conjunction with the international requirements for limiting global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, while pursuing efforts to stay under 1.5°C, led by the development strategy put forward at the 19th national congress, and in line with Chinese characteristics of the new era of development.
