Research Scholar Sustainable Service Systems Research Group - Energy, Climate, and Environment Program
Leila Niamir is a research scholar jointly associated with the Sustainable Service Systems and Transformative Institutional and Social Solutions research groups of the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment Program. She is a computational economist working on energy and climate change mitigation. Her research focus is on the science-policy-society interface, agent-based modeling, behavioral and lifestyle changes, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and wellbeing.
In addition to her association with IIASA, Niamir is a research fellow at Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) and the Technische Universitat Berlin, Germany. She also serves as a lead author and chapter scientist in Working Group III (mitigation of climate change) of the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Niamir received her doctoral degree from the University of Twente in The Netherlands in 2019 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MCC Berlin, Germany from 2019 to 2022. The outcomes of her research has been recognized and awarded several times, and she has received many individual research grants. Furthermore, she has been involved in several projects of the Seventh Framework Program of the European Community for Research and Technological Development (FP7) and Horizon2020 on climate change mitigation and adaptation as an energy-climate-model developer and policy researcher.
She is passionate about promoting science for society and actively works on the science-policy-society interface. She is an elect-member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), 2020-2025; the Young Academy for Sustainability Research (YAS) funded by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Stiftung, 2021-2024; and the Postdoc Academy for Transformational Leadership founded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, 2021-2023.
