The ECPR's General Conference is Europe's largest annual gathering of political scientists, often attracting more than 2,000 scholars from around the world. The 2018 General Conference will be held at Universität Hamburg in northern Germany. With more bridges than Venice and Amsterdam combined, Hamburg could just be the perfect place to build and strengthen links between different areas of political science and with other disciplines wrestling with global problems. With nearly 500 Panels taking place across 68 Sections, the academic program covers the breadth of political science.

Jessica Jewell, a researcher in the IIASA Energy Program, will present her recent research on the “Powering Past Coal Alliance”, a new initiative to phase out coal from power production. Even though cutting coal power is one of the most cost-effective measures of limiting climate change, this alliance is the first global effort to tackle this problem. In her talk, Jewell will explore the coverage of the Alliance and potential for expansion.
