Exploring future collaboration with the Japanese research community

The Japan Committee for IIASA, together with the United Nations University Institute for Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) have organized a seminar to publicize IIASA’s recent research activities and to discuss the possibility to expand collaboration with the Japanese research community.

In October, IIASA Director General and CEO, Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat, Deputy Director Professor Nebojsa Nakicenovic, and Special Advisor to the Director General Professor Chin-Min Lee traveled to Kyoto and Tokyo.

In Kyoto Kabat spoke at the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum on global water challenges. In Tokyo, Kabat and Nakicenovic participated in the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF)

Kabat, Lee and Nakicenovic also participated in a series of high-level meetings with the Japan Committee for IIASA, Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Environment, research institutions and agencies to explore areas to intensify collaborations between IIASA and Japan.

Participants at the IIASA Seminar on “Exploring the Future Collaboration with the Japanese Research Community” which was chaired by Professor Yoichi Kaya, Chair of the Japan Committee for IIASA and organized by the Japan Committee for IIASA, together with the United Nations University Institute for Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
