The new “E-course” was designed to accompany the WBGU report, World in Transition – A Social Contract for Sustainability. The course consists of 11 modules, each with 2 lectures and interviews which discuss the report and the challenges of providing scientific policy advice.

IIASA’s Nebojsa Nakicenovic speaks in Lecture 5 of the course, which focuses on the technical and economic feasibility of transformation. Nakicenovic also serves on the WBGU scientific advisory board.

The E-course is available at no charge and is primarily directed at university students. Students from all disciplines can earn credit points towards their bachelor or masters studies by taking an electronic exam.

The E-course was produced by the WBGU in cooperation with the Virtual Academy for Sustainability, a project of the University of Bremen, funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt. It was selected as a highlight of the German Year of Science 2012.
