On 31 March, 2014, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) releases the second part of its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), which assesses climate change impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation. IIASA researcher Reinhard Mechler served as Lead Author of Chapter 17 of the report, which focuses on the economics of adaptation. He also helped write the Technical Summary of the report.
On 1 April, Mechler joins other lead authors from Germany for a discussion of the key findings of the report. He will discuss climate risk management and resilience. The discussion also includes presentations by researchers involved in the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomperison Project (ISI-MIP), which IIASA co-led with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impacts Research.
The event is organized by the German Coordination Point for the IPCC, and sponsored by the German Ministry for Education and Research and the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.
