Scientific cooperation to build bridges

Nadejda Komendantova is invited to speak at the meeting on Scientific cooperation organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay in Austria. The meeting is dedicated to the Austrian experience and energy policy. H.E. Ambassador Juan Facetti provides opening remarks at the meeting.

The meeting includes the keynote presentations of Andreas Molin, Head of General Coordination of Nuclear Affairs, Environment and Water Management of the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism, Austria and Nadejda Komendantova, Leader of Cooperation and Transformative Governance Group, Advanced Systems Analysis Program, IIASA.

Andreas Molin discusses Austria's experience with nuclear development control at the borders. Nadejda Komendantova gives a talk on scientific cooperation in contested policy options. She discusses the challenges in policy planning processes such as deep uncertainty, ambiguity, feasibility and urgency in providing solutions as well as the need for compromise solutions. Komendantova gives examples such as selection and prioritization of criteria, selection and systems mapping of factors, formulation and prioritization of strategic goals and priority areas, formulation of plausible scenarios and selection of robust policies.
