Sergey Glazyev visited IIASA

Academician Sergey Glazyev, the Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, visited IIASA on 26-27 March, 2013.

For his visit, ASA organized several discussions with IIASA scientists on possible IIASA contributions to the policy-oriented research on the prospects of Eurasian integration. Alexey Gvishiani (Russian NMO), Arkady Kryazhimskiy and Elena Rovenskaya participated in the discussions.

Biography

 Academician Sergey Glazyev has been Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation since 2012. Born in 1961, Glazyev holds a doctorate degree in economics from the Central Institute of Mathematics and Economics at the Russian Academy of Sciences where he researched between 1986 and 1991.

In 1988, he participated in IIASA’s Young Scientists Summer Program and has been collaborating with IIASA ever since. From 1992 to 1993 Glazyev was First Deputy Minister and then Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of the Russian Federation. He then served as a Deputy in the State Duma from 1993 to 1996, when he chaired the Economic Policy Committee. In 1996, Glazyev became the Head of Department at the Security Council of the Russian Federation and then Head of the Information and Analysis Department at the Federal Council of the Russian Federation from 1997 to 1999. He was a Deputy of the State Duma between 1999 and 2007, after which he served as Director of the Institute of New Economy, State University of Management. From 2008 to 2012, he was Deputy of the General Secretary of EURASEC and Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Customs Union.
