Researchers from the IIASA Ecosystems and Services and Management Program (ESM), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and Bioversity International and CIAT have won the 2020 Innovative Applications in Analytics Award (IAAA) for their work on data analytics for farming recommendations in Mexico. The award was given by the Analytics Society of INFORMS, Kinaxis and Adelphi University. IAAA recognizes organizations for applications that feature novel combinations of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to achieve meaningful results.
Scientists and developers from ESM's Center for Earth Observation & Citizen Science, collaborated with CIMMYT to develop the AgroTutor mobile app, which utilizes the power of crowdsourcing to empower farmers in Mexico with comprehensive, real-time data that will hopefully lead to increased crop yields. The AgroTutor app allows farmers to register parcels of land and log relevant agronomic information such as crop management practices and yield performance to share with others.
