Research Scholar Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services Research Group - Biodiversity and Natural Resources Program
Dr. Krasovskiy is a mathematical modeler, specializing in simulations, control problems, and optimization, with applications in ecosystems, economics, technology, and social sciences. He gained research experience in the field of land use and forest modeling including forest disturbances with particular emphasis on the modeling of European, Eurasian (i.e., Russia), Asian (i.e., Indonesia), and global wildland fires. He is the main developer of FLAM which is a fire model that is integrated in the IIASA biophysical model cluster. FLAM is used to assess, and project burned areas and fire adaptation options under climate change. Currently, he is also developing the IIASA global spatially explicit forestry model G4M and the IIASA-AFE Land Modeling System (LMS). Furthermore, Dr. Krasovskiy's research interests concentrate on dynamic optimization in models for economic growth and investments, modeling evaluation of REDD-based offsets with financial benefit-sharing mechanisms, permanence modeling, and the optimization of election policies in age-structured societies.
Dr. Krasovskiy started his IIASA career as the winner of the Mikhalevich Award in 2006. He joined the Ecosystems Services and Management Program (ESM) in 2012 and is now working in the Biodiversity and Natural Resources (BNR) program, with the Agriculture, Forestry, and Ecosystem Services (AFE) research group. He also worked previously as a junior researcher with the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, as a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics (IMM), UrB RAS in Ekaterinburg, and at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), where he was an associate lecturer.
