Tropical Futures Initiative
(TFI) Stakeholder Consultation Workshop

Two workshops in Jambi and Samarinda (East Kalimantan) were held, back to back from 7-11 April 2015, to report progress of GLOBIOM regional adaptation work to various key stakeholders in the province level. This included various government offices, domestic and international NGOs and universities. The workshops alsoed aim to gather more information and to validate the existing approach and technical specifications of the model to suit policy assessment needs of the region. Moreover, discussions were held about plausible land use scenarios that would be assessed with the model later on.

Background

In September 2014, IIASA hosted a research school activity as a first effort in the regional adaptation of the Global Biosphere Management Model (GLOBIOM) in Indonesia. The main goal of the research school was to accomplish a land cover simulation adaptation required for input data preparation. In order to identify an adaptation strategy for input data and GLOBIOM, feedback on data availability and policy assessment needs to come from key stakeholders. Furthermore, feedback from relevant stakeholders is essential to form clear strategies to optimize synergy between INDOBIOM and LUMENS.

Objectives

1. Update the progress of the Tropical Futures Initiative to policy makers in Jambi and East Kalimantan Province as key stakeholders
2. Introduce potential contribution of TFI models to policy formulation
3. Identify further policy support needs to be included in TFI modeling activities
4. Validating data usage for regional adaptation of GLOBIOM to INDOBIOM
5. Identify potential scenarios to be included in TFI modeling activities
