IASA’s CLR Centre Head and Deputy ESM Program Director Florian Kraxner, Austrian Delegate to the FAO-UNECE Team of Specialists on Forest Communicator’s Network  (FCN) and IBFRA President will lead discussions on boreal forest research under the FAO-UNECE timber committee framework. He will hold an invited lecture on the IBFRA18 Cool Forests Conference held in September 2018 at IIASA with particular focus on the IBFRA initiative overall and the IBFRA Insight Process in specific.

The FCN addresses the pressing need to improve the ability of the forest sector to communicate effectively, within and outside the sector on the role of forests in sustainable development. The FCN advises the ECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section and supports communication activities in all Work Areas (non-exhaustive list), through:

  • Supporting forest-related ECE/FAO intergovernmental bodies in reaching out to relevant constituencies, within and outside the forest sector;
  • Providing a forum for international interaction and cooperation in forest related communications;
  • Developing the professionalism of forest communicators by introducing and encouraging state of the art and innovative communication approaches, strengthening networking and supporting capacities in the region.
  • Participation in the FCN is open to all sharing the concern about its common objectives and tasks.
