LIMITS Conference: Implementing Climate Policies in the Major Economies

This conference was held to advance the discussion about international climate policy making. The latest insights from the LIMITS research project, which has quantified the consequences of implementing climate policies in the major economies, were presented and discussed with a panel of policy makers and experts.

The conference discussed topics of key interest for climate policy, such as investment and financing, climate co-benefits, carbon markets, and technological transitions. New estimates of the resource and policy needs to mitigate climate change were provided and framed into the current policy context.

The conference was organized into two main sessions. The morning session provided high level policy insights from the project and discussed possible repercussions for the Durban platform for advanced action. The afternoon provided deep dives on the new research insights generated in LIMITS. The full conference program is here.

LIMITS is a 3-year research project, which started in October 2011, with ten partners from Europe, China, India, and collaborators from the US and Japan. This is an EU funded collaboration that is part of the FP7 program that focuses on the co-benefits of climate policy for air pollution, energy security and economic growth. This work has resulted in a number of joint publications that fed into the recently published Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

IIASA is an active partner in LIMITS as well as a member of the project's Coordination Board.
