The International Sociology Association (ISA) is a non-profit organization in formal associate relations with UNESCO and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. It aims to represent sociologists and promotes sociology and social sciences.

It hosts the ISA Forum of Sociology that is designed as a mid-term meeting of Research Committees, Working Groups and Thematic Groups combined with the Business Meeting of the ISA Research Council. The platform calls for research on the full range of sociological topics ranging from micro to macro dynamics on a global scale and welcomes diverse approaches, including comparative and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The 3rd ISA Forum of Sociology will take place between 10-14 July 2016 in Vienna under the theme "The Futures We Want: Global Sociology and the Struggles for a Better World". This theme encourages a forward-orientation in empirical, theoretical, and normative research to tackle the problems and opportunities that often cut across borders.

IIASA scientists from the World Population Program will present their latest research at this conference.
