The year 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo in 1994. In the framework of the ICPD Beyond 2014 review, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will be hosting the European Population Forum “Enabling Choices: Population Priorities in the 21st Century” in Geneva on 1-2 July 2013.
In preparation of this event, UNFPA and UNECE are organizing thematic expert meetings, this one being the first. Based on the draft analysis of the results of the ICPD Beyond 2014 Global Survey carried out by scientists from IIASA's World Population Program, the meeting will be structured along the topics: population growth/structures and sustainability; sustainable population, environment, and economy; and sustainable development and governance.

The meeting will take place at the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID), on March 25-26, 2013. The other two meetings will focus on Reducing Inequities, Fostering Social Inclusion (15-16 April 2013), and on Families, Sexual and Reproductive Health over the Life Course (29-30 April 2013).
