Leo Schrattenholzer

Dear IIASA Community,

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that our long-time IIASA colleague and friend Leo Schrattenholzer has suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Like many of you, I had known Leo since the early days of IIASA and kept up with him during his over 30-year career at IIASA.

Leo joined IIASA in 1973, working closely with Holger Rogner and Nebojsa Nakicenovic in Wolf Haefele’s Energy Program. After a short time away from IIASA, he rejoined us in 1990 as a research scholar in the Environmentally Compatible Energy Strategies Program, which he led from 2000 until 2006. As one of the leading energy experts in the world, Leo co-organized—with the late Alan Manne—the International Energy Workshop which, for many years, analyzed energy models and scenarios. We all knew Leo as an excellent scholar, avid outdoors man, and fun-loving friend.

We will miss him sorely.

Detlof.
