Visit of Southern African Systems Analysis Centre (SASAC) Delegation to IIASA

This week, IIASA hosts a group of South African PhD students working on systems analysis projects in collaboration with researchers at the institute.

Building on IIASA's collaboration with the South African NMO and the SA-YSSP experience gained during the time period of 2012-2015, a new initiative has been now developed and executed by the Southern African Centre of Excellence in Applied Systems Analysis (SASAC).

This year IIASA's South African NMO is starting to support PhD students working on systems analysis. For 2016, 10 PhD students have been selected for scholarships and an additional 9 are supported by enabling their participation in SASAC meetings such as the forthcoming visit to IIASA. During the week of 25-29 a delegation of SASAC PhD students together with their South African supervisors, as well as the representatives of the SASAC consortium are visiting IIASA.

The purpose of this visit is twofold: first, to give the participants a chance to learn more about applied systems analysis, IIASA, its history, and current research agenda, and second, to create opportunities for them to discuss their planned research together with selected IIASA scientists.

IIASA's Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) and SA-YSSP

IIASA’s annual 3-month Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) offers research opportunities to talented young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA’s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change.

Following the example of the IIASA YSSP, the first SA-YSSP took place from 1 December 2012 to 28 February 2013. Click here to find our more.
