IIASA impact

The IIASA approach encompasses the entire path to impact from problem identification; model and tool development; data analysis; and capacity development; to the identification of solutions for decision makers.

The institute produces world-class science through its research programs, cross-cutting activities, and international networks. By combining large-scale, integrated projects with smaller, exploratory projects around emerging issues, IIASA is in an unrivaled position to analyze major global transformations.

The substantial impact of IIASA research in the last five years ranges from shaping EU air pollution policy to providing results that were central to the Paris climate summit negotiations. These and other highlights are detailed in Research for a Changing World – IIASA Highlights 2011-2015

The institute also delivers its numerous impacts by developing new methods in systems analysis and building global capacity in these and other IIASA tools. Working in partnership with policymakers at all levels to apply and disseminate these methods, IIASA translates its research into robust policy options.

In addition, the institute provides services to the scientific community through hosting and maintaining a number of databases and models, and plays an important role in science diplomacy, using science to build bridges across increasingly complex political divides.
