The ISWEL project is a three-year partnership between IIASA, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The project aims at developing tools and capacities for managing the complex and increasing interlinkages between water, energy and land development challenges. While it takes a global approach, it also zooms into two transboundary basins facing multiple development and environmental challenges: The Indus and Zambezi.

This is the third project steering committee meeting and the main purpose is to summarize project achievements of 2018, agree on the work plan towards the end of the project (November 2019), and discuss next steps beyond 2019.

The expected outcomes include:

1. Shared understanding on the project outputs and outcomes at the global level and for the two basins

2. Dissemination plan of project outputs

3. Agreement on the structure and contents of the final project report

4. Decision on project closure

5. Action plan to explore follow up project opportunities

The Project Steering Committee is composed of five distinguished members including:

Dr. Leena Srivastava, Vice-chancellor at TERI School of Advanced Studies, and      member of the IPCC

Dr. Youba Sokona, Co-chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change-IPCC

Prof. Dr. David Grey, Visiting Professor at the School of Geography and the Environment from Oxford University
