12 November 2018 - 15 November 2018
The Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development takes place in Kyiv on 12-15 November 2018. The Forum is co-organized by the Government of Ukraine and the five United Nations Regional Commissions in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASА), The World Bank, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), European Commission, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Global Environment Facility (GEF), International Energy Charter, and other.
This year's Forum follows up on the recommendations from the previous meetings – the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development held in June 2017 in Astana and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2018 in New York. It combines an opening ministerial session with plenary sessions and parallel workshops in four main tracks:
1) Energy transition and decarbonization,
2) Robust systems and infrastructure,
3) Matchmaking and investor confidence, and
4) Hot topics and deep dives.
Among IIASA researchers taking part in the Forum is Dr. Nadejda Komendantova from the Advanced Systems Analysis Program, who delivers a presentation on the participatory governance of energy transitions, and another presentation on de-risking investments into renewable energy sources. This contribution is based on the results of the LINKS, Mena-Select and Eurasian Integration projects.
