Jointly organized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), this conference brought together leading cooperation researchers from China, IIASA, and elsewhere to discuss empirical insights and theoretical methods underlying the evolutionary theory of cooperation. The goal of this conference was to showcase complementary approaches to evolutionary problems dealing with the social dilemmas surrounding human cooperation.
While the conference’s main emphasis was on theory, or rather theories, model-based lectures were complemented with information on salient empirical findings. In this way, the conference provided a platform for comparing and orchestrating different research approaches, with a special emphasis on contributions by the rapidly growing community of Chinese game theorists.
Featuring about 30 invited speakers, the conference was open for registration by other participants. The conference featured a dedicated poster session, and posters were cordially invited.
The conference started on Tuesday, April 8, in the early morning and concluded on the evening of Thursday, April 10. Thanks to generous support by the Natural National Science Foundation of China, there was no registration fee. All registered participants were invited for free lunches and the conference’s welcome reception. In addition, the participants were welcome to join, at their own expense, dinners on all other evenings, including a festive dinner on April 10, a whole-day cultural excursion, including a dinner, on April 11, and a half-day visit to the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Zoological Museum of China, including lunch, on April 12. Registrations were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
