Media Information: IIASA at EGU

The European Geophysical Union (EGU) General Assembly brings together researchers from all over the world in a meeting covering all disciplines of earth, space, and planetary sciences. IIASA experts in climate, natural disasters, agriculture, and energy will be presenting new results at the conference, and will take part in several press conferences. IIASA’s Hannes Böttcher and IIASA-affiliated scientist Joeri Rogelj will take part in a press conference on the latest research addressing how to mitigate climate change – including options for keeping climate change to below 2 degrees celsius. This press conference will focus on the uncertainties and costs of mitigating climate change. More information

Disaster risk management

IIASA’s Nadejda Komendantova, Reinhard Mechler, and Stefan Hochrainer-Stigler will discuss new research on how to respond and prepare for natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, and tsunamis. New research is helping to identify which advance actions pay off, and how countries and local governments can make smart investment decisions that lead to fewer deaths and less destruction. More information

Air quality and urban air pollution

IIASA’s Shilpa Rao contributed to a study on air quality and human health, which will be presented by collaborator August Collette. This press conference focuses on the impact of policies on pollution concentrations, the major sources of air-borne pollutants in Europe and what the costs of these pollutants are for both human health and the economy.
