Through its research programs and initiatives, the institute conducts policy-oriented research into issues that are too large or complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline. This includes pressing concerns that affect the future of all of humanity, such as climate change, energy security, population aging, and sustainable development.
The results of IIASA research and the expertise of its researchers are made available to policymakers in countries around the world to help them produce effective, science-based policies that will enable them to face these challenges.
On this page, you will find downloadable information about IIASA, its research, publications, and governance structure.
This document (pdf) briefly presents IIASA, its member countries, its research and capacity building activities and its research quality.
IIASA is governed by a Council that is made up of one representative of each of IIASA’s member countries. Along with various external advisory bodies, the Council also regularly evaluates IIASA’s work. Charts show the structure of these external bodies and IIASA’s internal organization.
IIASA Info sheets include information on research partners, collaborations, capacity building and publications with individual countries.
The illustrations have been selected because they demonstrate the full life cycle of research at IIASA starting with the methodological and interdisciplinary advances which are then applied to studying global challenges in an integrative manner and leading to policy recommendations, which have resulted in positive impacts for economies, societies, and academia.
