Recipients of the Peter E. de Jánosi Fellowship

The Peter E. de Jánosi Postdoctoral Fellows are selected to carry forward Peter's deep interest in advancing the social sciences and incorporating them fully into interdisciplinary analyses of significant public policy problems. The Fellowship provides support for their work at IIASA for one to two years.

Alison Heslin

Tenure at IIASA: 2017 - 2019

Hosting IIASA Programs: World Population & Risk and Resilience

Nationality: USA

Dr. Alison Heslin focuses her research on food security, collective action, or the intersection of the two. Her dissertation research addressed food security and collective action events in South Asia, including food riots in India and garment worker strikes in Bangladesh. Adam French

Tenure at IIASA: 2015 - 2017

Hosting IIASA Programs: Risk and Resilience & Advanced Systems Analysis

Nationality: USA

The interdisciplinary research of Dr. Adam French focuses on natural resource governance, socio-environmental conflict, and institutional innovation in the context of multi-level systems being transformed by global change.

At IIASA, Dr. French combines meta-analytical and empirical research to examine the implementation of the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) paradigm in diverse contexts, with an emphasis on the Global South. This work is targeted at the production of policy-relevant insights and analytical tools, including methods for linking analyses of the composition, function, and evolution of watershed governance networks as well as a framework for conceptualizing key factors that facilitate and hinder the development of more integrated - and ultimately more just, adaptive, and sustainable - watershed management practices.
