YSSP Fellowships

Name or endow a YSSP fellowship and leave a lasting legacy at IIASA!

In 2011, IIASA established an endowed YSSP fellowship program that closely links a YSSP fellow with the donor. These fellowships can be named after a donor or someone the donor wishes to honor. Recipients of named YSSP fellowships are offered ample opportunities to communicate with the donor regarding their research progress and some choose to cite this distinction in their publications as a special form of recognition to the donor.

Named YSSP fellowships are paramount to IIASA recruiting young researchers from around the world who show great promise and encouraging them to expand their careers at our institute.

During their time at IIASA, YSSP fellows attend seminars, master classes and conferences designed to strengthen their professional skills and leadership capabilities, thereby helping to fortify the systems analysis sector itself. With the knowledge they gain at IIASA and the relationships they build, YSSP fellows return to their alma mater institutes with broader research perspectives and new problem-solving skills to share with their colleagues.

Minimum gift: €5,000

In 2011, a generous gift from a YSSP alumnus Dr. Petr Aven established the Petr Aven YSSP Fellowship to fund a young researcher from Russia or a developing country that is not a member of IIASA until 2021. The fellowship has supported nine YSSP fellows to date.

Dr. Roger Levien, a former director (1975 – 1981), a long-time supporter and a collaborator of IIASA made a generous gift to the 2015 YSSP Fund and established the Roger Levien YSSP fellowship. His wish was to offer the Pardee RAND Graduate School students an opportunity to participate in the YSSP and become part of the IIASA network. The fellowship has supported four YSSP fellows to date. The 2018 recipients were Sara Turner and John Luke Irwin.

Established in 2015, the Ferrero Fellowship supports YSSP fellows, whose research interests align with IIASA expertise and research strategy, and contribute to Ferrero's long-term commitment to sustainable sourcing of raw materials. The fellowship has supported five YSSP fellows to date. The 2018 recipients were Muhammad Nurariffudin and Fumi Harahap. Read more on Ferrero's collaboration with IIASA.

Established in 2018 by a generous gift from IIASA alumni Prof. Jyoti and Prof. Kirit Parikh with the aim to provide much needed support for talented researchers from India and other developing countries to participate in the YSSP.
