IIASA Regional Conference "Systems Analysis in Eurasia" will take place on 13-15 April 2021 as a hybrid event, combining online and in person attendance. The physical part of the meeting will be hosted by the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS) in Moscow, Russia.
The world is changing at an unprecedented rate and is facing significant challenges of rapid globalization, shifts in economic power, environmental change, and geopolitical conflicts, while undergoing a digital revolution involving emerging technological breakthroughs that have the potential to change the way we work, live, and govern. In addition to these challenges, society needs to deal with persistent inequality, global social injustice, and the questioning of scientific legitimacy.
Considering the interconnected nature of social, economic and environmental challenges, systems analysis – an integrated approach for research and investigation that enables synergies and trade-offs among potential solutions – is an ideal research approach to better understand and provide policymakers and relevant stakeholders with potential strategies to address regional and global challenges.
In Eurasia, countries face regional challenges including socio-economic change, the competition for natural resources, transboundary issues, environmental problems, and the need for effective sustainability strategies. The Systems Analysis in Eurasia conference, co-hosted by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS), Austrian IIASA Committee at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Finnish Committee for IIASA, and the Committee on Data of the International Science Council (CODATA), supported by the Systems Analysis Committee of the RAS and the Geophysical Center of the RAS, will explore how the multilateral application of systems analysis can be used to address those challenges.
This international conference will build on the expertise and interlinkages between the system analysts’ communities in the countries across Eurasian region to discuss and analyze transformative approaches to achieving sustainability across multiple sectors and regions. Topics to be discussed will include both research methods and their application to regional challenges.
