ISI-MIP cross-sectoral workshop

The ISI-MIP cross-sectoral workshop, jointly organized by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Science (PIK) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), brings together the ISI-MIP community from all over the globe to answer significant questions on ISIMIP´s future aims to establish a longer-term coordinated impact assessment effort driven by the entire impact community, beginning with ISI-MIP2 and its contribution to collectively advance science.

The cross-sectoral workshop brings together global and regional climate impact modellers, from a diverse range of impacted sectors, including agriculture, water, natural vegetation, forestry, biodiversity, fisheries and marine ecosystems, energy, and economic modelling.  The workshop offers an unprecedented opportunity to discuss the first results coming out of the latest simulation phase, with a focus on the impacts of extreme weather and climate events, and the evaluation of model performance.

The workshop will also provide the opportunity to elucidate and discuss the grand challenges of climate-impact research, with a view to understanding how activities within ISI-MIP can contribute to meeting these challenges, drawing on the rich body of expertise represented by its participants. At the same time it will provide the opportunity to discuss the first simulation results from the historical model evaluation task ISI-MIP2.1.

The Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project (ISI-MIP) is a community-driven modelling effort bringing together impact models across sectors and scales to create consistent and comprehensive projections of the impacts of different levels of global warming. 

ISI-MIP fosters a closer collaboration between climate-impact researchers from different scales and sectors by designing harmonised modelling experiments, with the aim of promoting improvement in the state-of-the-art in modelling techniques, and comprehensively representing the breadth of impacts of future climate change as projected by leading models in the relevant sectors.

ISI-MIP provides the framework to address a broad range of questions relating to global and regional impacts of climate change, ranging from impact assessments and policy support, through to furthering our basic understanding of natural systems and their interaction with our societies.
