Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network

IIASA Director General and CEO, Professor Dr Pavel Kabat takes part in the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network in Beijing as well as holding high-level consultations with IIASA’s National Member Organization, the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

The Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) brings together a unique combination of the world’s leading scientists, technologists, business leaders, and development practitioners at its fourth council meeting in Beijing in May 2014. The Leadership Council guides the work of the SDSN—a global initiative, established by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, to promote problem solving and practical solutions for the pressing challenges of sustainable development.

IIASA Director General and CEO, Professor Dr Pavel Kabat, is a member of the Leadership Council along with a range of global leaders including: HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco;  Peter Bakker, President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development;  Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson, Global Environment Facility; Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever; Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University; and Carl-Henric Svanberg, Chairman of both BP and Volvo AB. Items to be covered at May’s meeting include:

Alongside this meeting, Kabat will have high-level consultation meetings with, among others the President and Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)—IIASA’s National Member Organization in China. The aim of the meetings is to strengthen IIASA’s already productive collaborations with China. Whilst there Kabat will also name Prof Dr. Jie Wang, Vice Chancellor of Beijing University and  former IIASA Council member, an IIASA Honorary Scholar.
